My original idea, before I got home from work, was to make two dresses before I head to bed. I started on the backless dress and decided to make a peplum top instead. I figured I have more dresses in mind than I have tops so better make tops before this collection comprise of mainly dresses. Besides, I’ve attempted twice to make a peplum top and both failed. The third attempt has to be a charm right? And, it did turn out cute; reminds me of a ballerina dress.
I’ve been meaning to remake the infinity dress, which is supposed to be made yesterday night. I got tired and went to bed instead. This morning, I took a few minutes to drape around the dressform to see how it would look like and I must say, I don’t know; or my draping is just really bad.

Technically it’s 5 down and more to go because I am including the top and maxi skirt currently on sale on my shop as part of this collection.
These are sample garments so of course I ran into some issues. For example the fabric I choose for the jacket lining was a no go. I wanted it to be thick and used cotton, and it was just a super wrong decision. It turned out too stiff, which is okay, but the fabrics stick or cling to each other and create wrinkles. I will use real lining fabric next time to avoid the clinginess.
The green babydoll top was supposed to be a peplum top, but of course I rushed it and didn’t realize the top portion was too short. I still like the outcome though because it’s great for days when you just want to eat forever. I didn’t trash this top because it’s also great as a pregnancy top and I know two special girls that will be very pregnant during the Hmong New Years.

I worked on the embroidery top and realized I did not like the high neckline with the style I was aiming for. I haven’t trash it yet, but it’s set aside for now. I don’t know if I will reattempt it soon.
The night before last, I worked on a dress and knew exactly what I wanted to do with the top, but the fabric just wouldn’t want to work with me. I played around with it and felt I needed to just sleep on it. Then voila! The first piece done last night.

Yesterday night, I started on the “new collection”. I have in mind a peplum top with embroidery and the Hmong printed scarf. I know I know, it may have too much materials in one article, but I think it’ll be fine. Besides, I want this collection to be more Hmong; the first one was too modern or American. I guess the hard part is getting the execution exactly as I have in my mind so that it doesn’t look tacky. Hmong items are colorful and when I like an item, it is mainly because I like the color combinations. Weird thing is, I can’t seem to get red and green together on a dress without it looking Christmassy. Anyway, below is a photo of what I could get done yesterday night. My embroidery machine is BROKEN, so I am very limited to using embroidery :(
These are just photos of the Hmong scarves I will be using. BTW, they are also on sale on my etsy shop! Grab one before I use it all up.

Interesting news I heard today while driving to work. Today is Friday the 13th and there is a flight 666 going to HEL. I don’t consider myself to be superstitious, but I do question myself, would I book this flight? I don’t know!
Anyway, I am sooo ready to do another collection. I found the main fabric I want to use and am anxious to start. The fabric is of course the Hmong printed scarves. My concern is that the fabric is very very very delicate and the seams will come apart if the fabric is stretch or snag.
The other day I worked on a jacket and it looks like it should be okay if you don’t get into fight or wrestle in it. I will go ahead and proceed with my decision to use this fabric for my next collection.
This morning I was browsing the internet and found some really inspiring and cute items that I would love to buy.

I’m not in the mood to make dresses; thought I make shirts instead. I like loose fitting tops and currently this is my favorite top style.
