I’m in California! I was so excited to be in California because family is here and I’ll have an abundance of places to get fabrics and such. But the excitement came to a halt when my mother in law said I will not be able to sew. Hmong people have this superstition that when your husband goes off to war, you cannot touch a needle or knife. My husband is deploying and with respect to my parents in law’s beliefs, I’ll hold off on sewing til he gets home. At first I was very reluctant, but I realized it’s best to not cause any stress as I’m sure my mother in law is probably already stressing. I’ll just have to pick up another hobby. Lately, I’ve been working on Elsa dresses for my nieces for Halloween. And the other day I worked on a jacket for myself.

Technically it’s 5 down and more to go because I am including the top and maxi skirt currently on sale on my shop as part of this collection.
These are sample garments so of course I ran into some issues. For example the fabric I choose for the jacket lining was a no go. I wanted it to be thick and used cotton, and it was just a super wrong decision. It turned out too stiff, which is okay, but the fabrics stick or cling to each other and create wrinkles. I will use real lining fabric next time to avoid the clinginess.
The green babydoll top was supposed to be a peplum top, but of course I rushed it and didn’t realize the top portion was too short. I still like the outcome though because it’s great for days when you just want to eat forever. I didn’t trash this top because it’s also great as a pregnancy top and I know two special girls that will be very pregnant during the Hmong New Years.

Interesting news I heard today while driving to work. Today is Friday the 13th and there is a flight 666 going to HEL. I don’t consider myself to be superstitious, but I do question myself, would I book this flight? I don’t know!
Anyway, I am sooo ready to do another collection. I found the main fabric I want to use and am anxious to start. The fabric is of course the Hmong printed scarves. My concern is that the fabric is very very very delicate and the seams will come apart if the fabric is stretch or snag.
The other day I worked on a jacket and it looks like it should be okay if you don’t get into fight or wrestle in it. I will go ahead and proceed with my decision to use this fabric for my next collection.
This morning I was browsing the internet and found some really inspiring and cute items that I would love to buy.

I’ve been reeaaallllyyyyy lazy lately. Haven’t sewn anything besides these two bolero jackets :(
I need to be more productive, but after work I just don’t feel like doing anything…
I haven’t post this up on my etsy account. If you want this top, msg me via etsy or FB

Over the weekend, I wanted to remake my crop jacket but couldn’t find the pattern I made for it. Sometime last week or so, I was cleaning out my desk and probably threw it away. I was pretty disappointed and decided to redo the pattern. It doesn’t fit as well as the pattern before, but it’ll do for now. I’m not done with my sample piece for the pattern but thought I share it on here.

It was a pretty unproductive this past Friday and Saturday. I just wanted to lie down and watch TV all day. On Sunday, I decided to sew and whipped out a jacket and a full skirt. I was a little disappointed because it took me longer than I anticipated. I tore down my living room and bedroom looking for trims for the jacket. I couldn’t find anything to match with the fuchsia brocade so I settled with black and gold.
