I really like the crop top with a high waist pants, shorts, or skirt. I might recreate the full skirt to pair it with the top for a photoshoot. Or, maybe I should design a different crop top. We’ll see… I have to finish my orders first though. I AM moving soon. :D

Short shorts!

April 22, 2014

I had a hard time figuring out what to do with the high neckline top I was working on. I sat around for a long time just killing time online then I remembered I needed shorts for the summer. I am super glad the shorts turned out great and it fits like a glove. I also tried to make a skirt for my niece, but realized the width of the fabric was shorter than expected. I also reattempted the upcycle tanktop dress in pink and the Hmong scarf. I really like the dress and will probably make myself one.hmong print purple shorts

Just some updates and photos…

I was way overdue to make my sister in law a tea length skirt. Last week I finally made her one! This skirt is also posted on my etsy shop for ordering.

I received my cotton fabric I purchased from spoonflower.com over the weekend. I haven’t really thought much about what to make. I made a high neck scoop top because I like it high. I have no clue what kind of bottom to add onto the top.

This fabric has been sitting around since Fresno New Year 2013, which is 4.5 months ago. I guess it hasn’t been that long compared to the other fabrics I have from who knows when. I really like this green and silver floral chiffon fabric, but the quality is not that great. The silver flowers are metallic and looks like it’s heat pressed onto the fabric. It makes the fabric kind of wrinkly and doesn’t hang too well if you look closely. There is a “new” fabric very similar to this one, but the flowers are gold/bronze and silver. The quality is a lot better, but I don’t like it as much because the green is not as bold as this “older” one. I think it’s fairly hard to find this “older” one and when I saw it at Fresno New Year, I had to get it. I’m glad I’m finally using my fabrics, but there are sooo many other errands I need to get done. I need to get my priorities straight!

Waiting Patiently

April 15, 2014

So I decided on my fabrics, but unfortunately, the website ran out of the knit fabric I wanted. I settled for cotton and the other knit, which is thicker and the ink doesn’t saturate as well. I made my order since April 1st and would like to receive them like NOW. In the meantime, I’ve been trying to get rid of my fabrics. I’m getting married! and will be moving at the end of May. I want to use up as much fabrics as possible to lighten my moving load. I love collecting fabrics and am kind of having a hard time using them because they are all so beautiful. All the “sample” items I will be making will be fairly cheap; probably half of the price I would charge for a made to order item. Below are the items I made in the past week/weekend.
The last photo is just a belt I made for myself because I threw away all my belts when I moved last time. The 2nd to the last photo is just a shawl my sister put on my dressform and I decided to put the belt on it.

I received all of my sample fabrics and decided I only want to use 3 of the designs. The others did not turn out well. This Spring/Summer, my main goal is everyday basic wear; tops, skirts, and summer dresses. I would like to make shorts, but I feel like it is going to be too hard to have it custom fit, especially for those that are not sure how to measure themselves. I’m not sure if I will keep these designs though. For sure the skirt will be part of the collection, but probably not the dresses. The black floral dress is just something I made in between because I wanted to work on a different type of fabric.

I often get requests for a Hmong inspired reception or wedding dress so I thought I should create a print I can use. Gold is my favorite color to go with white. I’m still debating on the prints below. I would love for it to be printed on chiffon, but I don’t think it’s possible.
